Hi Families,
This week, our swimming lessons at Trico Centre wrapped up. A swimming report card will have come home with your child on Tuesday. These are important records if you plan to continue swimming lessons in the future. If the report card somehow did not make it home, you will need to contact the Trico Centre for a replacement. Thank you to all the volunteers who came and supported students in the change room before and after lessons - your help is appreciated by both myself and the students.
The items shown in the below picture are all items found in the change room after our lessons. If any of them belong to your child, please contact me to claim them.
We have enjoyed learning the basic skills of Aussie Rules Football this week. Students applied the skills of "handballing" and kicking in a variety of familiar games like Capture the Flag.
Students completed their May update this week. Some students emailed home their update, and others wrote a traditional letter, wanting to showcase how their penmanship has improved. Thank you for taking the time to respond to your child's email.
We continued our exploration of the Fundamental Needs of People by starting our own research. Grade 1 students are exploring Calgary in the past, and grade 2 students are exploring other Canadian communities in the past. They are also creating a map of Canada using puzzle maps to identify where their community is. Students are gathering information from pictures, words and videos. In the process, they are also developing their skills of inferencing, using evidence and reasoning to draw conclusions and record ideas.
Students have been working on self-paced addition and subtraction learning. They have been introduced to a variety of materials to solve problems depending on their readiness, and are working with them daily.
Thank you to all the families who have exchanged Home Reading this week. Students are always so excited to bring home books from their lessons to share with you. Home Reading exchange will be available for at least another week, so please take this opportunity to exchange at least one last time.
A reminder that we have our final Fish Creek Park field-trip on Wednesday. We still require 2 volunteers to join us for the day. If you are available, please contact me.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Ms. Thomas
